Working
days start early in Bangui, capital of the Central African Republic,
and they end early too because of a dusk-to-dawn curfew.</div>
The
country has been in turmoil since a loose alliance of mainly Muslim
rebel groups, operating under the name Seleka, left their strongholds in
the north and marched south and seized power in March 2013 from
then-President Francois Bozize.<br />
Their main leader, Michel Djotodia, briefly took over before being replaced by an interim head of state.<br />
Since then, the CAR has lived under a shadow of fear, uncertainty and violence which has left some 6,000 people dead.<br />
And the unrest has not gone away, far from it.<br />
<ul class="story-body__unordered-list">

As
we arrived in the capital, we were told that several people we had
agreed to meet in the centre of town would not be able to make it.<br />
It just was not safe anymore, they told us.<br />
Three Seleka officials had been abducted and had disappeared; their bodies still have not been found.<br />
The
tit-for-tat response was immediate. The following day, three Muslims
were killed. An accusing finger is being pointed at the mainly Christian
"anti-balaka" vigilante militias.<br />

Religious leaders are at the forefront of reconciliation efforts, with representatives of different faiths working hand in hand.<br />
One of them is imam Abdoulaye Ouasselegue, vice-president of the CAR's Islamic Council.<br />
As
if to highlight what he is trying to achieve, he made a point of
meeting us not at his mosque but on the grounds of Bangui's Catholic
archdiocese, an island of tranquillity on the banks of the Ubangi River.<br />
He
is hopeful that stability will return, but says that he no longer wears
anything that may identify him as a Muslim because it is too risky.<br />

asked about the importance of the international military presence in
the country under the flags of the UN and France, he lets out a long
sigh of resignation, before answering: "What's the point of having
peacekeepers here if there is no peace to keep?"<br />
Father Xyste Mbredjeze-Ngasha is also hoping to build bridges.<br />
But
this Catholic priest faces a huge task - he has just been put in a
charge of a new parish in PK5, Bangui's now notorious fifth district.<br />
Home to many of the capital's Muslims, it has become a flashpoint in the current conflict.<br />
The first time Father Xyste entered a Muslim neighbourhood in his parish, he had to be escorted by armed UN peacekeepers. <br />
"I fear for my safety, but I must do God's work," he says.<br />

As the afternoon begins to draw to a close, anxious Bangui residents head for home. <br />
But for some, beating the curfew is the last thing on their minds.<br />
They have no homes to go to. They are the thousands of people living in the capital's 28 camps for the displaced. <br />

In our series of
letters from African journalists, Sola Odunfa in Lagos considers what
makes one of Nigeria's many kings so special.</div>
For the last week
there has been great excitement in Ile-Ife, the centuries-old city in
south-west Nigeria that ethnic Yoruba people regard as their spiritual
home.<br />
Residents have been celebrating the appointment of a
successor to the throne of Ooni of Ife, which became vacant in July on
the death of the incumbent, Oba Okunade Sijuwade. <br />
Political,
religious and social leaders from across the country have been sending
congratulatory messages to Ile-Ife on this new epoch.<br />
And on 28
October the people of Ile-Ife turned out in their hundreds of thousands
to receive their son Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, who left home for Lagos
several years ago in pursuit of economic opportunities.<br />
He
returned not only as a real estate tycoon but also as Ooni of Ife -
their paramount ruler and the spiritual leader of all Yoruba people at
home and in the diaspora.<br />
The Yoruba are the second largest ethnic group in Nigeria.<br />
As
I watched that event on TV I found the communal joy infectious and I
swayed in my seat to the beat of gangan drums and, especially, the
voices of old women chanting the praise of the forebears of the
king-elect and the founders of Ile-Ife. <br />
I was happy for them and, as we say in Yorubaland, for myself.<br />

But for the Ooni-elect the public fanfare has now ended.<br />
He is in total seclusion, being attended to and spiritually strengthened by traditional priests.<br />
When,
after 21 days, he emerges, after meekly following secret religious
rites, he will be another being - the Ooni proper, second in rank to the
Yoruba deities.<br />

But
I can only hope that the obeisance being paid to him as Ooni Ogunwusi
by Nigeria's high and mighty will not lead him to really believe all he
might hear about his "highness".<br />
Indeed the Ooni of the 21st Century is not comparable in power and majesty to the Ooni of the days of yore.<br />
Today
the Ooni and other traditional rulers nationwide are, when push comes
to shove, senior employees and under the authority of state governments.

Such madness! A pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, New
Anointing Chapel in Yenagoa, Bayelsa, Mark Christmas, has been kidnapped
by unknown gunmen in his hometown.<br />
The pastor’s wife, Evelyn Christmas, said her husband was kidnapped with two other persons on October 18.<br />
She said the incident happened in their hometown, Biseingbene,
Ekeremor Local Government Area, Bayelsa. Mrs. Christmas said her husband
was invited to the community for a meeting by unknown persons on the
fateful day.<br />
“When he got to the community, he found out that the invitation was not only false but a devilish plan to kidnap him,” she said.<br />
Mrs. Christmas said the pastor had stayed over two weeks in their
custody as they demanded N200, 000 for all their phone calls and N300
million as ransom.<br />
“It is over two weeks and I have not heard or seen my husband but
some of our family members, who live in the village, told me that they
spoke with them.<br />
“I planned to contact the police, but the family members said that I
should not involve the police to avoid incurring more danger.<br />
“The reason is that my husband might be killed by the hoodlums if the police is involved in the matter,” she said.<br />
Mrs. Christmas described the situation as ”very painful”.<br />
She said she prays her husband comes home alive.<br />
The Police Public Relation Office in Bayelsa, Asinim Butswat, said the family had not reported the matter to the police.<br />
“They have not reported the incident to us, but if they come to us, we are ready to mobilise ourselves,” Mr. Butswat said.<br />

A cargo plane has crashed on take-off near the international airport in South Sudan's capital Juba, with at least 25 killed.</div>
Some reports put the death toll as high as 40.<br />
It is unclear how many of the victims were on the plane and how many were on the ground.<br />
The Antonov An-12 plane was heading to Paloch in Upper Nile State and crashed just 800m (half a mile) from the runway.<br />
Presidential
spokesman Ateny Wek Ateny told Reuters news agency that there were at
least two survivors, a crew member and a child.<br />
A spokesman for
Russia's diplomatic mission in Uganda said they were in contact with
South Sudanese officials over the plane crash, following reports that
the dead included the five-member Russian crew, AFP news agency
reported.<br />

The plane's first flight was in 1971, the <a class="story-body__link-external" href="http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=20151104-0">Aviation Safety Network reported</a>. It was being operated by Allied Services Limited, a logistics company based in South Sudan. <br />

<span id="goog_1486911836"></span><span id="goog_1486911837"></span>An African army that can quickly respond to crises on the continent is about to become a reality, 13 years after its conception.</div>
From
January 2016, the African Standby Force (ASF) will be able to intervene
in cases of war crimes, genocide or crimes against humanity if an
African Union member state requests assistance or if the AU itself
considers the situation serious enough. <br />
It will also be able to
provide humanitarian assistance and undertake peacekeeping and observer
missions, although any deployment would be subject to donor funding.<br />
This
multidisciplinary force will be made up of five brigades - each with
police, military and civilian components that could be deployed within
14 days in their own regions.<br />
The Cameroonian city of Douala will
host the logistics base, where equipment will be stored, but the
ultimate power remains in Addis Ababa, at the AU headquarters in the
Ethiopian capital.<br />
The force was initially expected to be ready by 2008, but AU members have dragged their feet over its creation.<br />

At

an ASF field training exercise in South Africa to help evaluate how
ready the force is to deploy.<br />
The number of personnel is expected to rise to 25,000 by the time the force is operational in January.<br />
But
Africa does have experience in mounting special response operations,
and has already begun taking responsibility for its own peacekeeping,
even providing most of the troops in the UN missions on the continent -
more than 8,000 troops from Ethiopia alone.<br />

"There's
been a positive experience of African contributions to keeping peace on
the continent," says Peter Pham, director of the Africa Centre of the
Atlantic Council.<br />

Fighting Islamist militancy</h2>
The
nature of conflict has evolved from being primarily armed intra-state
conflicts - mostly rebel groups fighting for control of natural
resources or to topple governments - to the increasing threat of
Islamist militants.<br />
It means that the role of the intervention
forces has also changed from traditional peacekeeping to engaging in
active combat like the AU troops fighting al-Qaeda-linked militants in
Somalia.<br />
The force which has grown from initial deployment of
8,000 troops in 2007 to more than 22,000 has managed to recapture all
major towns and cities from al-Shabab. <br />
This change strengthens the cause of the ASF, says Ben Payton from the risk analysis firm Verisk Maplecroft.<br />
"The
rise of cross-border terrorist campaigns in Africa potentially
increases the usefulness of the standby force, since African governments
will be more willing to use the force to counter what is seen as a
common threat."<br />
The 2012 crisis in Mali presented a good example
of where the ASF could have intervened but the initial poor response by
African nations meant France stepped in to drive away the Islamist
militants.<br />
<br />

</figure>With the escalation of violence by the Boko Haram
group in areas bordering north-eastern Nigeria - the insurgents' base -
yet another AU-backed multinational force was created.<br />
This one took seven months to become operational - and is still not fully funded.<br />
The existence of the ASF would eliminate the need to set up a fresh force for every conflict.<br />
While the troops should be in place, the force still faces several issues.<br />
The biggest one is funding - the AU says it still needs $1bn (£650m) to properly finance the force.<br />
Without donor support it will be difficult for a mission to actually be deployed.<br />
Home-grown
financing could prove a problem, especially as countries with larger
budgets might prefer to invest in countering their own domestic threats
rather than contributing to a force they have little control over. <br />
Militarily there are weaknesses too - air power and solid intelligence gathering are poor across the continent.<br />
<br />
<figure class="media-landscape has-caption full-width">
<span class="image-and-copyright-container">

</figure>"The concept of specialisation has largely not occurred in Africa," says Mr Pham. <br />
"For
example, it's harder to co-ordinate infantry brigades from five
different countries that are trained to do the same thing, than having
five different units that do five different tasks that learn to operate
together and complement each other.<br />
"The latter is more efficient in terms of resources and operation."<br />
Some of the contributing nations also have armed forces that lack training, equipment and discipline.<br />
Another major challenge is that of political will - getting a timely reaction from AU member states when a crisis erupts.<br />
An ASF intervention also has to come with the approval of the UN Security Council, which could further delay the response. <br />
Despite
these hurdles, come January, the AU member states do not have much
holding them back should troops need to be deployed to trouble spots
speedily.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16245453336553755472noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6414227279295680536.post-85587505147536269822015-11-03T04:50:00.000-08:002015-11-03T04:50:33.348-08:00<h1 class="post-heading">

A Federal High court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Federal

The Federal Government yesterday denied an application by Dasuki

The US director of national

Militants
launched an insurgency in the Sinai following the fall of President
Hosni Mubarak in 2011. They stepped their attacks after the military
overthrew Islamist President Mohammed Morsi in mid-2013. <br />
A year
ago the insurgents renamed their movement Sinai Province and pledged
alliance to Islamic State. Hundreds of police and soldiers have been
killed. <br />
After the crash Sinai Province issued a written statement and an audio message saying that it brought down the passenger jet.<br />
However, experts doubt it possesses the weapons capable of bringing down an airliner.<br />

The plane's flight recorders have been found and sent for analysis.<br />
Debris was spread across a wide area of Sinai, officials said.<br />

destroyed in mid-air can be specific impact, purely mechanical, physical

"There is no such combination of failures of systems which could have led to the plane disintegrating in the air," he added.<br />
He
said the plane lost speed and started descending rapidly, and the crew
made no attempt to get in contact and report about the situation on
board.<br />
The <a class="story-body__link-external" href="http://www.cbsnews.com/news/satellite-detected-heat-flash-at-time-russian-plane-went-down/">US broadcaster CBS News reported</a> that a US satellite had detected a "heat flash" over the Sinai at the time of the crash. <br />
It
said the data was still being analysed and that although the flash
could have been caused by a bomb, a fuel tank or engine explosion was
also possible.<br />
It is believed to be Russia's worst ever air

No doubt the S-class is a nice car but the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
with all its technological features would make its older brother look
like the last child in a family. It packs some of the features of the
'car of the future' like automated driving and automated parking etc.
which I believe, that's what you and I want to see in a car. And the
E-Class sedan won't disappoint. <a href="http://autoblog.com/" target="_blank">AutoBlog</a> revealed the features of the 2017 E-Class sedan and we are here to give you a run down.Check them out below.<br />
<a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="more"></a><b>Semi Autonomous driving </b><br />
<br />
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which will make its official debut at the
2016 Detroit autoshow, is a semi autonomous luxury car. In other words,
it is able to drive on its own without any input from you. Like Tesla
Model S cars that drive themselves on the highways, all thanks to its
autopilot system and the V7.0 software update, E-Class has what the
German car maker calls 'semi automated assistance system' that consist
of smarter adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist. It takes the
driving from you in certain situations, while still allowing you to be
in control by having your hands on the steering wheel.<br />
<br />
Unlike Tesla cars with autopilot software update that pilot themselves on the highways with lane making, the <a href="http://www.wearobo.com/2015/06/upcoming-mercedes-benz-e-class-sedan.html" target="_blank">2017 E-Class</a>
does so even on public roads with no lane markings. It does so by
following the car ahead and by scanning for structures such as
guardrails and even buildings at the side of the road.<br />
<br />
<b>Park with a smartphone</b><br />
<br />
Owners of the E-Class luxury saloon will be able to park their vehicles
with a smartphone via an app called ''Mercedes connect me'' developed
by the German automaker. This capability is a feature called autonomous
park pilot.<br />
<br />
Mercedez autonomous park pilot is similar to the remote parking found in
the BMW 7 series. Once you arrived at your destination, just activate
the parking system and step out of the car. When you find a parking
space, you can control your car into the spot by circling on the phone's
screen within 10 feet of the car.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://blog.caranddriver.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/parking-pilot_garage-626x396.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://blog.caranddriver.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/parking-pilot_garage-626x396.png" height="404" width="640" /></a></div>
<b>Your smartphone now your car key.</b><br />
<br />
It's turns your phone into a car key.You can unlock your E-Class door
with an NFC-enabled smartphone like the iPhone 6s or Galaxy S6, instead
of your car key. Just point and tap your smartphone at the driver's door
and it will open. This is very similar to BMW's take on the 7 series
that offers a key fob and touchscreen. It also has a cradle that offers
wireless charging to a NFC handset with a secure SIM card.<br />
<br />
<b>Share information with other vehicles(V2X communication)</b><br />
<br />
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan will come pre-installed with what
is known as V2X or vehicle to X. This X stands for other vehicles and
infrastructures. It will allow the 2017 E-Class to share information such
as traffic with other vehicles via a Mercedes server. This will help
improve vehicles safety.<br />
<br />
The E-Class also has Active Braking and <b>Evasive Steering Assist</b>
to assist you detect and avoid hitting pedestrians that jump on the
road out of the 'blue' and also to avoid collision with the car in front
by slamming on the brakes when the system detects that an evasive
maneuver is not possible. It also adjusts if you put in too much steering
to keep the car E-Class stable.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://blog.caranddriver.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/J1Zvg-626x417.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://blog.caranddriver.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/J1Zvg-626x417.jpeg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<b>Adaptive LED Matrix Lighting.</b><br />
<br />
Introduced on the CLS for 2014, Mercedes’ Multibeam LED headlamps are
enhanced for the 2017 E-class. The individual LED count increases from
24 to 84, each individually controllable—switching between high- and
low-beams, and the curve-following adaptive-lighting functions are now
achieved entirely via electronics. The light pattern is also altered in
city driving or via information from the navigation system (such as when
approaching intersections). Additionally, the light unit glows blue,
which just looks cool.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16245453336553755472noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6414227279295680536.post-14756189777508686242015-10-28T12:26:00.001-07:002015-10-28T12:26:54.568-07:00Army Releases Images Of Wanted Boko Haram Members (Photo]<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

In order to beat the deadline set by President Muhammedu Buhari to end
insurgency in the country, the Nigeria Army has released images of some
of the most wanted suspects of the sect (Boko Haram)<br /><br />The images
of the wanted sect members were today, boldly shown on a banner and were
displayed by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt – Gen. Tukur Buratai among
other officers.<br /><br />Inscription on the banner however urged Nigerians
to report to the Army if any of the persons on the banner is seen

It will be the first time Iran - an ally of President Bashar al-Assad - has attended such a summit with the US.<br />
Representatives of Russia, Saudi Arabia and Turkey will also attend the talks.<br />
Earlier, the US said an invitation had been extended to Iran - a move Syria's Western-backed opposition questioned.<br />
Meanwhile,
Russia said its aircraft had struck 118 "terrorist" targets in Syria
over a 24-hour period - a new record - as a result of what its defence
ministry said was new intelligence.<br />
The main round of talks on
Syria is expected to take place on Friday, but diplomats say some
preparatory meetings could happen on Thursday evening.<br />
<a class="story-body__link" href="http://www.bbc.com/news/explainers-34656711">Washington struggles for clear line on Syria</a><br />
"We
have reviewed the invitation, and it was decided that the foreign
minister would attend the talks," Iranian foreign ministry spokeswoman
Marzieh Afkham said.<br />
Egypt and Iraq also confirmed they had accepted invitations to the meeting.<br />
BBC
diplomatic correspondent James Robbins says that while the US is
certainly not welcoming Iran to the Syria talks, it will now tolerate
Tehran's involvement. <br />

participation in the Vienna talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei
Lavrov by phone on Tuesday.<br />
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov later told reporters that Russia wanted a "widening of the dialogue" on Syria.<br />
Iran
is believed to have spent billions of dollars over the past four years
propping up President Assad's government, providing military advisers
and subsidising weapons.<br />
However, Syria's political opposition has warned that Iran's involvement will only complicate the meeting in Vienna.<br />
Both Iran and Russia - another ally of President Assad - have recently stepped up their military role in the Syrian conflict.<br />

Despite that, unconfirmed reports earlier this month said that hundreds of Iranian troops had arrived in Syria.<br />
They
were reported to be joining government forces and fighters from the
Lebanese Shia Islamist movement, Hezbollah, in assaults on rebel
positions in northern and central Syria.<br />
Russia began its military intervention in Syria at the end of last month, launching air strikes in support of President Assad. <br />
Russia

The US has indicated it could only tolerate President Assad during a short transition period, after which he should step down.<br />

</figure><strong>Why is there a war in Syria?</strong><br />
Anti-government
protests developed into a civil war that, four years on, has ground to a
stalemate, with the Assad government, Islamic State, an array of Syrian
rebels and Kurdish fighters all holding territory.<br />
<strong>Who is fighting whom?</strong><br />
Government
forces concentrated in Damascus and the centre and west of Syria are
fighting the jihadists of Islamic State and al-Nusra Front, as well as
less numerous so-called "moderate" rebel groups, who are strongest in
the north and east. These groups are also battling each other. <br />
<strong>What's the human cost?</strong><br />
More
than 250,000 Syrians have been killed and a million injured. Some 11
million others have been forced from their homes, of whom four million
have fled abroad - including growing numbers who are making the
dangerous journey to Europe.<br />
<strong>How has the world reacted?</strong><br />
Iran,
Russia and Lebanon's Hezbollah movement are propping up the Alawite-led
Assad government, while Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar back the more
moderate Sunni-dominated opposition, along with the US, UK and France.
Hezbollah and Iran are believed to have troops and officers on the
ground, while a Western-led coalition and Russia are carrying out air
strikes.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16245453336553755472noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6414227279295680536.post-46498626421978143362015-10-27T02:00:00.000-07:002015-10-27T02:00:04.474-07:00Spectre stars join royals for James Bond world premiere<br />

The Duke and Duchess of
Cambridge and Prince Harry have joined the stars of new James Bond film
Spectre for its world premiere in London.</div>
The royal guests were
met by director Sam Mendes and producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G
Wilson ahead of the screening at the Royal Albert Hall. <br />
Daniel Craig, who has played 007 for a decade, was the first to arrive on the red carpet on Monday night. <br />
He told the BBC: "It's changed my life and I've loved every second of it."<br />
The star also admitted that he "hated" watching himself on screen, but said "I love playing James Bond".<br />
Craig
said Mendes was "one of the best directors there is" and that he had
enjoyed being "creatively involved from the very beginning". <br />

Harris, Christoph Waltz, Ben Whishaw, Ralph Fiennes, Andrew Scott, Dave
Bautista and "Bond girls" Lea Seydoux and Monica Bellucci. <br />
Bellucci said it was a "great pleasure" to be part of the "amazing tradition" of Bond films. <br />
"It's
magic," she said. "It's incredible how James Bond represents so much,
not just in England actually, but all over the world." <br />
Scott, who
plays a new character called Denbigh, said that the franchise had
lasted so well because it kept "reinventing" itself. <br />
The
Sherlock star added: "The storyline in this movie is about surveillance
and how we're watched constantly. There's a lot of prescient subject
matter in the recent Bond films." <br />
Spectre is the first Bond film to open in cinemas on the same day as its premiere. <br />
Mendes
said he was delighted that the public were also getting to see the
film. " I love the idea that cinemas around the country will be full

</figure>"It's just fantastic to see everybody out tonight,"
said Daniel Craig as he arrived on the Spectre red carpet that snaked
further than the eye could see around the Royal Albert Hall. <br />
Hundreds
of fans - some of whom had queued since Saturday - lined the route in
the hope of a photo with Craig. He didn't disappoint them. <br />
As
several thousand guests surged into the famous domed venue, huge
speakers pumped out Bond themes past and present, as clips from Spectre
played out on giant screens. <br />
Famous faces on the carpet included
Dames Shirley Bassey and Joan Collins, Hobbit star Martin Freeman,
musician Will.i.am and former Bond girl Maryam D'Abo from The Living
Daylights. <br />
For two hours the whole event was telecast around the
world - just as cinema audiences prepared to watch the film for the
first time. <br />
When it comes to world premieres, nobody does it better than 007. <br />
<hr class="story-body__line" />
The 24th official entry in the franchise sees Bond battling a criminal syndicate led by Franz Oberhauser, played by Waltz.<br />
Spectre
is the third Bond film chosen for the Royal Film Performance since its
inception in 1946. It follows previous premieres for Die Another Day
(2002) and Skyfall (2012).<br />
Early reviews have been positive, with some critics <a class="story-body__link" href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-34600980">awarding the film five stars.</a><br />
Speaking to the BBC last week, Craig said he <a class="story-body__link" href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-34603708">had not made any decisions</a> about whether he would carry on playing 007.<br />
The actor, on his fourth outing as the superspy, had <a class="story-body__link-external" href="http://www.timeout.com/london/film/daniel-craig-interview-my-advice-to-the-next-james-bond-dont-be-shit">told Time Out magazine</a> that he would "rather slash [his] wrists" than make a fifth Bond film.<br />
But
he told the BBC's Lizo Mzimba: "I'm quite straightforward and I say
things when I feel it and then I change my mind. I'm just like everybody
else."<br />
Speaking to the BBC on the red carpet, producer Barbara Broccoli said: "I'm pretty determined to keep him!" <br />

Adele's comeback single, Hello, looks set to top the singles chart, after selling 165,000 copies in three days.</div>
Early
figures from the Official Charts Company show the single has been
downloaded 156,000 times, with the rest of the total derived from
streaming.<br />
The star is also set for a US number one, after selling roughly 450,000 downloads in 48 hours.<br />
The song's video, which also premiered on Friday, has been watched more than 70 million times <a class="story-body__link-external" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQHsXMglC9A">on YouTube</a>.<br />
Directed by Canadian film-maker Xavier Dolan, the video sees Adele raking the coals of a faded relationship. <br />
Her
ex-boyfriend is played in flashback scenes by Tristan Wilds, a former
child actor from acclaimed crime series The Wire, who released his own
Grammy-nominated album, New York: A Love Story, in 2013.<br />
<a class="story-body__link-external" href="http://www.ew.com/article/2015/10/23/adele-hello-video">According to Entertainment Weekly</a>, it is also the first music video to be shot with large-format IMAX cameras.<br />

Reviews for the single have been overwhelmingly positive. The Guardian <a class="story-body__link-external" href="http://www.theguardian.com/music/musicblog/2015/oct/23/adele-new-single-hello-review">called it</a> "striking, witty and lovelorn"; while the Telegraph <a class="story-body__link-external" href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/music/artists/Adele-Hello-review/">described it as</a> "a beautiful song of loss and regret".<br />

</figure>Following its release on Friday, it topped the
iTunes chart in 102 countries, and the album topped the pre-order chart
in 93 countries.<br />
In the UK, Hello is expected to have the biggest
opening week of the year, beating Ellie Goulding's Love Me Like You Do,
which achieved 173,000 combined sales and streams in February.<br />
The
star could also smash a US record for selling the most downloads in a
single week - set in 2009 when Flo Rida's Right Round was bought 636,000
times.<br />
Such figures emphasise the importance of Adele's career in
an ailing music industry. She is one of the remaining few artists -
others include Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Ed Sheeran - who can convince
fans to pay for their records.<br />
Her last album, 21, sold 30 million copies worldwide, and it is hoped that its follow-up, 25, will mirror that success.<br />
If
so, it could help reverse figures from the first half of this year,
which showed that sales of both CDs and digital albums had fallen in the
UK.<br />
But, speaking last Friday, Adele told the BBC she was not feeling the weight of expectation.<br />
"I
feel like every album I'm ever going to write is always going to be
following 21," she said. "No matter what this album does, my next
record's going to be following 21.<br />
"It's phenomenal what happened
with that - but it is a phenomenon. I can't really include it in any
expectations of anything I ever do again."Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16245453336553755472noreply@blogger.com0
